Serdar Ortaç
Serdar Ortaç is one of the most prolific and important names in Turkish pop, a singer, songwriter and composer known since the 1990s for his albums, hit songs and the compositions he has written for other artists. Born in Istanbul in 1970, he trained as a lathe operator before enrolling at Bilkent University's American Culture and Literature department, which he left without finishing; before entering music, he worked as a program producer and radio host at private stations in Istanbul, and it was during one of his shows that a producer noticed him and offered him his first record deal. He had a rapid breakthrough with his 1994 album "Aşk İçin" and its legendary single "Karabiberim," going on to deliver numerous chart-topping hits across Turkey including "Padişah," "Dansöz" and "Mikrop"; beyond his own songs, he became known as the "King of Compositions" for writing nearly all-hit songs for many pop artists of his era. He has long lived with multiple sclerosis, a chronic condition affecting the nervous system, while continuing his active music career.
