Savina Yannatou is a world-renowned Greek singer and composer known for her work in Mediterranean traditional music, jazz, avant-garde and free improvisation. Born in Athens in 1959, she trained at the Athens National Conservatory and later at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama, launching her career in 1979 working with the celebrated composer Manos Hadjidakis. With her group Primavera en Salonico, formed in 1993, she performs Sephardic Jewish songs, Byzantine chants and traditional Mediterranean music through original jazz-inflected arrangements, singing in Greek, Arabic, Spanish, Italian and Ladino. Closely followed by audiences in Turkey as well, she has released numerous albums on the ECM Records label.
