Sagopa Kajmer (born Yunus Özyavuz) is one of the most foundational and influential figures in Turkish rap, a self-described "Pessimist Rapper" who pioneered a melancholic rap style built on philosophical, literary lyrics. Born in Samsun in 1978, he graduated from Istanbul University with a degree in Persian Language and Literature, and started his music career DJing at a local radio station in Samsun. He founded the hip-hop collective Kuvvetmira in 1998, went by the alias Silahsız Kuvvet early in his career, and eventually took the name "Sagopa Kajmer," later founding the label Melankolia Müzik with his ex-wife Kolera in 2005. Known for classic albums like "Bir Pesimistin Gözyaşları" and "Bendeki Sen," and songs including "Baytar" and his duet with Ceza "Neyim Var Ki," Özyavuz is the first and only rap artist to have performed concerts in all 81 provinces of Turkey.
