Melihat Gülses
Melihat Gülses is one of today's most important interpreters and vocalists of Classical Turkish music, known for her clear, refined voice. Born in Akşehir, Konya in 1958, she graduated from Istanbul Technical University's Turkish Music State Conservatory, Vocal Training department, in 1984, and began her professional music career while still a student, joining TRT Istanbul Radio in 1981; she gave her first major solo concert in 1985 at the Bilsak Art Center. Having made it her mission to popularize traditional Turkish music among wide audiences and younger generations, she reached an even broader public through her rendition of "Çok Aşığın Var Diyorlar" in the TV series "Ihlamurlar Altında," and has released significant albums including "Narçiçeğim," "Hüznün Hikayeleri" and "Tuna'ya Hasret," earning numerous honors for her contributions to Turkish culture, including the Best Turkish Music Artist of the Year award. She is married to Necip Gülses, a tanbur player with TRT Istanbul Radio, and the couple's children, Neva and Alihan, have grown up immersed in the arts.
