Kalben, full name Kalben Sağdıç, is a Turkish singer, songwriter and actress who became one of Turkey's most popular independent and alternative rock artists through her distinctive vocal style, acoustic-guitar-accompanied performances and storytelling lyricism. Born in İskenderun in 1986, she graduated on scholarship from Bilkent University's International Relations program before earning a master's in Media and Cultural Studies at the same university, working in brand management at Universal Pictures and in advertising and screenwriting before turning to music full-time. Her 2014 Sofar Sounds Istanbul performance of "Sadece," sung solo with just her guitar, went globally viral and introduced her to wide audiences; her self-titled debut album, released on Doğan Music Company in 2016, included a cover of İbrahim Tatlıses's "Haydi Söyle" that became a massive hit. She has continued her career with albums including "Sonsuza Kadar" (2017), "Kalp Hanım" (2020) and "Eski Dünyanın Yangını" (2022), and alongside music has also written children's books and novels.
