İsmail Tunçbilek
İsmail Tunçbilek is one of Turkey's most important bağlama virtuosos, best known internationally as a member of Taksim Trio alongside clarinetist Hüsnü Şenlendirici and kanun player Aytaç Doğan. Born in Bursa in 1977, he began playing at age 10 on a toy cura bağlama his musician father Sabri Tunçbilek brought home, and by 13 he had mastered the TRT Turkish folk music repertoire. He began his professional career at 16 alongside İbrahim Tatlıses and, at just 17, served as music director for Tatlıses's album Fırat. In 1998 he traveled to Cairo, performing with the Egyptian Symphony Orchestra, and in 2007 he co-founded Taksim Trio, which went on to achieve major international success in instrumental world music.
