Güncel Gürsel Artıktay is a Turkish singer, songwriter and academic known both for his academic career and his melancholic, deeply emotional melodies, typically writing, composing and arranging his own songs. Born in Bursa in 1986, he graduated in Musicology from Hacettepe University, earned a master's in Musicology and Music Theory at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) with a thesis on film scores, and is currently pursuing a PhD in evolutionary musicology at ITU while working there as a research assistant. Having played in rock bands during his university years and sung in choirs such as the Ministry of Culture's Turkish Folk Music Youth Choir and TRT's Polyphonic Youth Choir, Artıktay found a wide audience in Turkey's independent music scene with songs like "Ölmezdim," "Uzak Yol" and "Bu Yüzden." Releasing through the FadeOut Müzik label, he has put out albums and EPs including "Başka Bir Yerde, Başka Bir Zamanda" and "şehirler boyunca aklımdaydın."
