Derya Yıldırım is a Hamburg-born Turkish-German musician and multi-instrumentalist who blends traditional Anatolian folk with psychedelic rock, jazz and funk, best known internationally as the frontwoman of Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek. Raised in Hamburg's multicultural Veddel neighborhood, she studied bağlama at the Berlin University of the Arts under Taner Akyol. Founded in 2014 with musicians from Germany, France and the UK, her band draws on Anatolian psychedelic rock pioneers like Selda Bağcan and Barış Manço, fusing 1970s Turkish grooves with modern funk and jazz. The EP Nem Kaldı and the 2024 album Yarın Yoksa, released on Big Crown Records, have earned them wide acclaim on the global alternative music scene.
